Some people believe that the sky was covered seven. This is related to the seven celestial bodies that have different lengths. It means a faster object distance is considered to be much closer distance. Then will be portrayed as though these objects are in layers of different heavens and the earth around them who are in the middle. At first the sky is the Moon, celestial bodies that move fast so that is considered the closest. The second sky occupied by Mercury (Mercury star). Venus (Morning Star), third place. Then the Sun at four positions. The fifth heaven is Mars (Mars star) into six sky is Jupiter (Jove star) and the seventh is Saturn (Pilgrimage star). This is the old belief that consider the Earth as the center of the universe.
Ancient people (especially the Roman and Greek) also believe that the seven celestial bodies are the gods that affect life on Earth. The influence of his alternate from their influence will alternate from hour to hour, with a sequence starting from the farthest (according to their knowledge) that is Saturn, which is closest to the Moon. At 00:00 hours, Saturn was the one who is considered influential in human life. Therefore, the first day is Saturday (day of Saturn) in English, or Sabtu in the Indonesian language. Apparently, if we count the days until the year 1 AD, January 1, year 1, it falls on a Saturday.
If sorted for 24 hours then the next 00:00 hours is fall on the sun. So was that day as a day of the Sun (Sunday). After Sun’s day is the Moon’s day (Monday). The next day was Tiw’s day (Tuesday). Tiw is Anglo-Saxon name for the Mars (the ancient Roman god of war). Here it is Woden’s day (Wednesday). Woden was the Anglo-Saxon name for the Mercury (the god of the ancient Roman trade). Here it again Thor’s day (Thursday). Thor is the Anglo-Saxon name for the Jupiter (god of lightning, the king of the Roman gods.) Last is Freyja’s day (Friday). Freyja is the Anglo-Saxon name for the Venus (goddess of beauty ancient Roman).
In Arabic, the names of day called in the order: one, two, three, to seven, namely ahad, itsnain, tsalatsah, arba’ah, khamsah, Sitta and sab’ah. Indonesian follow this arabic naming, so be on Ahad, Senin, Selasa, Rabu, Kamis, Jum’at dan Sabtu. The sixth day is called in particular: Jum’at, because it was given by GOD himself in the Qur’an, which points out that every moslem men have to do Friday prayers in congregation.
Naming minggu comes from the Portuguese, dominggo, which means the day of the Lord. This is based on the Christian belief that Jesus rose on that day. However, Muslims do not believe it (different story will also be told by each religion), so they like to use “ahad” more than “minggu”.
