Replacement Power Supply (PS) is usually done if the computer is not good, especially on the power settings. Damage to the PS is characterized by frequent computer restarts itself, not caused by a virus. Or the computer can not live (on), whereas the power button has been pressed.
In choosing a PS that we have to consider is the amount of power that can be accommodated by PS. In the market usually power rating ranges between 250 Watt, 300 Watt and 350 Watt. For the generation of Pentium IV computer, the casing is available PS with power of 350 Watts. Note also the voltage setting in accordance with supply voltage of the house (usually 220V-230V).
Currently there are two types of PS that is AT and ATX. Here’s a description of each type of PS are :
- AT Power Supply, the connector that connect to the motherboard is divided into two parts. The installation should not be reversed. For simplicity, try the black wires are in the middle of the connector.
- Power Supply ATX, semi-automatic operated, meaning that when the computer is Shut Down, PS switched off automatically. Shape of the connector is more tidy than the AT and is not possible the installation of the connector upside down.
